The Invisalign Treatment Process in Fort Wayne

If you are interested in clear braces, we will schedule you for a consultation with one of our doctors. During this visit, he or she will perform a comprehensive oral assessment and determine your candidacy for Invisalign. If you are eligible for this type of treatment, impressions will be taken of your teeth. These images are then sent to our dental lab, where a trained technician will craft your clear aligners.

Once your custom trays have been created, we will schedule you for a follow-up visit at our office. Your doctor will try in the first set of aligners to ensure a proper fit. You will also be provided with instructions on how to wear and clean your Invisalign trays, as well as when to trade them out for the next set in the series. For effective treatment, your clear aligners must be worn a minimum of 22 hours every day. Because they are removable, they should be taken out when you are brushing, flossing, eating, or drinking.

In most cases, patients can complete treatment in about 18 to 24 months. However, this timeline can vary significantly based on the complexity of your case and the severity of your orthodontic misalignment.

Benefits of Clear Braces

Invisalign offers a number of advantages over traditional metal braces. For example, clear aligners are:

Virtually invisible: The most significant benefit of Invisalign is that the trays are clear. Therefore, others will not even notice you are undergoing orthodontic treatment.

Convenient: Because these clear braces are removable, patients can brush and floss normally. Additionally, in contrast to traditional braces, there are no dietary restrictions. You can eat all of your favorite foods without worry.

Comfortable: Unlike traditional braces, clear aligners have no metal components to irritate the lips, cheeks, or tongue. The sleek design fits snugly and comfortably over your teeth.

Invisalign for Adults

Whether we like it or not, others judge us by our appearance. For this reason, many adults are hesitant to undergo traditional orthodontic treatment, because they do not want to wear a conspicuous metal appliance for several months. Invisalign is an excellent alternative, as patients can wear their clear aligner trays all day without anyone noticing. If you have an important business meeting coming up, you can even remove the trays if you wish. Just be sure to place them back in your mouth when you are finished.

Teen Invisalign

Many of our patients ask if clear braces are appropriate for teens. The truth is, Invisalign can correct several of the same orthodontic issues as traditional braces. In fact, Invisalign created a version of their clear aligners specifically designed for the teenager. These trays are similar to their traditional counterparts but with a few added perks for our younger patients, including extra space for growing teeth, six complimentary replacement trays, and indicator dots that can inform the dentist whether the trays are being worn long enough.
